Fourth World Congress of Existential Therapy – 2026

In early June 2026, the global existential community gathered at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Aurora, Colorado, for the highly anticipated 4th World Congress of Existential Therapy. Hosted by the Rocky Mountain Humanistic Counseling and Psychological Association in partnership with the Society for Humanistic Psychology (APA Division 32), the event successfully brought together practitioners, researchers, and theorists from across the world. Building upon the foundational legacies of previous congresses in London, Buenos Aires, and Athens, the Denver gathering provided a vibrant and inspiring backdrop for unifying and advancing existential psychology on an international scale.

The congress fostered a profound dialogue across all branches of existential thought, anchored by keynotes and presentations from distinguished international figures including Emmy van Deurzen, Alfried Längle, Kirk J. Schneider, Evgenia T. Georganda, and Joel Vos. A defining triumph of this year’s program was its deliberate focus on expanding the modality’s global reach by integrating voices from historically underrepresented regions and embracing emerging psychological frameworks, such as Terror Management Theory. Through a robust main program alongside intensive workshops, attendees engaged deeply with both the enduring philosophical foundations and the evolving clinical frontiers of existential practice.

Beyond the rich academic discourse, the congress served as a celebration of international solidarity and shared purpose. The celebratory Congress Banquet on June 6th, along with local excursions into the beautiful Colorado landscape, offered invaluable opportunities for informal networking, cross-cultural exchange, and deepened friendships. For the European practitioners and FETE members in attendance, the event reaffirmed the vitality of our global community, leaving participants invigorated and ready to integrate these diverse international insights back into their local therapeutic practices.
