The Federation for Existential Therapy in Europe is now the European-Wide Accrediting Organization for Existential Therapy.
The Federation for Existential Therapy in Europe was founded in 2015 at the First World Congress for Existential Therapy in London. It is approved as a charity in the United Kingdom and is a member of the European Association for Psychotherapy.
The 2026, 4th World Congress of Existential Therapy will take place in the Hyatt-Regency Aurora-Denver Hotel in Aurora, Colorado, United States. Nestled near the breathtaking Rocky Mountains, the venue offers the perfect setting to be part of a movement shaping the future of existential therapy worldwide!

The 5th European Conference for Existential Therapy, hosted by the Federation for Existential Therapy in Europe (FETE), took place on May 24–25, 2024, in Istanbul under the theme “Building Bridges.” Over two days, existential therapists, philosophers, and practitioners from across Europe and beyond gathered for keynotes, panels, workshops, and discussions exploring how therapy can unite people, ideas, and traditions.
Keynote speakers included Emmy van Deurzen, Digby Tantam, Alfried Laengle, Zeynep Direk, and Erik Craig, alongside a diverse program of invited lecturers. Hosted at the Point Hotel Barbaros and streamed online, the conference created a vibrant space for dialogue and reflection, echoing Istanbul’s role as a city where continents, cultures, and histories meet.
FETE exists to:
- Create, foster, and support the ongoing development of Existential Therapy across Europe.
- Provide a platform for therapeutic, academic, theoretical, and practical exchange on the topic of Existential Therapy.
- Encourage and support Europe-wide training and education initiatives in Existential Therapy.

Our Training Standards
As the European-Wide Accrediting Organization for Existential Therapy, the Federation for Existential Therapy in Europe (FETE) sets robust training standards. We ensure all programs adhere to the European Association for Psychotherapy’s (EAP) four-year minimum, encompassing 500 hours of theoretical studies, 300 hours of clinical practice, 150 hours of supervision, and 250 hours of personal therapy. Our commitment ensures high-quality training in existential therapy across Europe.
